Mom Blogs

Today’s TCL Library goes digitally into cyberspace!  Moms love gathering and talking about the ups and downs of raising children.  In today’s digital world, lots of moms are finding their community gathering online.  Some of these “mommy bloggers” are hitting bookshelves with print versions of their online conversations.

Star Tribune’s “Cribsheet” blogger, Kay Krhin, talked about the recent surge of mom blogging and why the trend of online blogging has been so popular.  Being a mom sometimes makes a woman feel isolated.  She says this is a way for a mom to connect with other moms.  They are able to find support and answers at all hours of the night.  It has become a “virtual village to help raise your child”.

Kay suggests reading three blogs that have now been published into books.  The first book is “Sleep is for the Weak”  This is a collection of essays from mothers who blogged.

“Rockabye” by Rebecca Woolf is a book borne of her blog “Girls Gone Child”  Rebecca unexpectedly became pregnant at 23 and blogged about her journey to motherhood.

The third book is “It Sucked and Then I Cried:  How I Had a Baby, a Breakdown, and a Much Needed Margarita”.  This book, by Heather Armstrong, is about her battle with post partum depression.  Heather’s quote, “I had never before felt so isolated or alone.  There were many days where the only way I could survive another hour was by writing about it.”, pinpoints exactly why a lot of mom’s go online and blog.
