Restaurants By The Fire

Minnesota winters can be brutally cold. So, it’s no wonder that so many people find themselves hanging by the fire to stay warm. Here’s the cool part. You don’t have to stay at home to do it. There are all sorts of spots around the cities that offer a great atmosphere, great food and a great fire.

Emily Engberg and Joy Summers from Eater Twin Cities pick three restaurants that are worth cozying up to this winter.

The first stop takes us to Waldmann Brewery & Wurstery. It’s located at 455 Smith Avenue in Saint Paul. It was first established back in 1857, but opened back up in 2017. It was started before the Civil war by the Waldmann family. Today, it still has that old school vibe with all sorts of historical touches. It’s a house with lots of character. From the type of paint used on the historic house to the pictures and how they are hung on the walls, this spot will take you back and warm you up. The best part is the room with the fire burning stove. It’s inviting, warm and unlike any spot where you can grab a beer or a bite to eat. Even the tables are lit by candles that look like small fires. This is a must go to spot in Saint Paul.

Stop number two is a hot spot for all sorts of reasons. In Bloom is inside Keg and Case which is the old Schmidt Brewing building on Saint Paul’s 7th Street. Keg and Case has vendors from all over the cities, but it’s the restaurant In Bloom that got our attention because of its fire. Not a fire like you might first think of. There’s a massive fire that’s used to cook the food. Logs are added throughout the day to keep it going. It’s visual and unique. The smells of the fire fill the stylish and cozy restaurant. It’s a perfect spot to grab a drink or a fantastic meal. You can’t go wrong with this spot. It’s a gorgeous venue.

Our last stop takes us to Minneapolis. The Lynhall is not only a restaurant, but it’s also an event space, kitchen studio and a fantastic spot to sit by a cozy fire. This fire makes you feel like you’re at a cabin in the north woods. A couch and a couple of comfortable chairs wrap around this space, making it a perfect spot for a cocktail, coffee or a little hang out before having dinner with friends. It’s truly a spot that will warm you up and relax you from the moment you walk in. The Lynhall  is located at 2650 Lyndale Ave. South, Minneapolis.
