Disneyland or Disney World?

There’s no question that the world of Disney appeals to both kids and kids young at heart.  Disneyland in southern California and Disney World in Florida see a combined total of over 70 million guests every year. But there are differences at both locations so Renata Faeth from AAA Minneapolis is here to help you decide which resort is best for your family.

DISNEYLAND
If you are renting a car, fly into Los Angeles (LAX) because it’s cheaper.  Otherwise, you can fly directly into Anaheim.  This is the original Disney resort which opened in 1955.

THE THREE THINGS THAT SET DISNEYLAND APART

1. It's very pedestrian-friendly
--you can easily get from Walt's original theme park to each of the three hotels of the resort: Disney's Grand Californian Resort, Disneyland Hotel, and Disney's Paradise Pier Resort so it’s easy to plan a midday break at the hotel, squeeze in a swim at the pool, take a nap, or eat lunch at the hotel.

2. Special attractions you won't find anywhere else
-    World of Color
-    Cars Land
-    Guardians of the Galaxy
-    Frozen the Musical live on stage (ask your AAA agent about VIP seating at that show)

3. Those beautiful beaches of Southern California are only about 20 minutes away!  San Diego is a gem, too

DISNEY WORLD
Fly to Orlando.  Four Theme Parks make up Disney World:
-    Magic Kingdom – opened in 1971
-    Epcot, Opened in 1982
-    Hollywood Studios, opened in May 1989
-    Disney’s Animal Kingdom, opened in April 1998

THE THREE THINGS THAT SET DISNEY WORLD APART
1. There's so much to choose from
-    4 theme parks, 2 water parks, shopping, dining
-    mom can get a massage, dad can golf
-    grandma and grandpa will enjoy Epcot
-    27 Walt Disney World Hotels on the 47 square mile resort

2. You can feel like a true VIP
-    Contact AAA Minneapolis to learn about Disney World VIP Tour options

On the Wild Side at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park
A Path Less Traveled – the 20th Anniversary tour of Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Backstage Magic – a 7-hour behind the scenes tour of the theme parks
Star Wars Guided Tour at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park

-    if you do these as a group, the additional price isn't bad

3. It's a foodie destination
-    there are over 150 restaurants at Disney World
-    Epcot hosts an annual food and wine festival
-    make sure to ask your AAA Travel professional about special chef demonstrations -- they're well worth the experience

HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD YOU PLAN TO BE AT THE RESORTS
Disneyland: 3 days at the resort, more if you want to explore Southern California

Disney World: 7 days at the resort

HELP SAVE SOME MONEY

The best time of year to go: September or October (middle of April to Memorial Day is also good)

Park Hopper passes are well worth it
--you can spend part of your day at one park, and then spend the evening at another
--getting from park to park is easy, especially at Disney World

If you're going to Disney World, don't rent a car but you'll definitely want a car if you go to Disneyland

Hotels?  At Disneyland, you're okay staying at a hotel off property, at Disney World, it's really recommended you stay on property

Mention Twin Cities Live when you book a Disney Package of $3000 or more with AAA Minneapolis to any Disney Destination before July 31st and you’ll receive a free piece of luggage. You can travel at anytime -- just start the process by calling AAA Minneapolis today!
