Advice for Planning a Hawaiian Vacation

It seems winter is never-ending in Minnesota. One spot where you don't have to deal with snow emergencies is the Aloha State, Hawaii. Renata Faeth from AAA Minneapolis stopped by with advice on island hopping and shared deals for some of her favorite resorts.

Advice:

  • A visit to Honolulu is a must on the way in or out of Hawaii
    • Waikiki Beach, Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head are three must-sees
  • If you spend at least a week in Hawaii, you'll want to add at least one neighbor island
    • Maui is home to excellent snorkeling and great beaches
      • It's the island booked the most
      • Westin Maui deal: August 13 - 18, 2018 in an Ocean View Room along with a rental car and breakfast daily for $3,466 for two (airfare not included)
    • Kauai is lush and tropical -- they receive over 400 inches of rain a year
      • The helicopter ride over the Napali Coast is a once in a lifetime experience
      • Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu deal: August 10 - 14, 2018 in a partial Ocean View Room and rental car for $2,889 for two (airfare not included)
    • The Big Island of Hawaii is home to eight of the world's 13 climate zones
      • Hilton Waikola deal: August 13 - 18, 2018 in an Ocean View Room along with a rental car and breakfast daily for $2,338 for two (airfare not included)
  • Book airfare early and try traveling Mondays - Thursdays
  • Book excursions through a travel agent in advance -- they tend to sell out
  • Instead of a hotel, look at booking a condo to stretch your dollar
