Super Saver: Advice on Returns

If you had to pull out your acting hat again when opening grandma's gift this year -- you know the "Oh, I've always wanted this chicken oven mitt" response, then you're ready to make those returns.  Our Super Saver, TCL’s Kelli Hanson, stopped by to help us understand and navigate those lengthy return policies for your holiday gifts.

1. Target
There are a lot of exceptions when it comes to returning a gift from Target. We've linked all the details here.  Here are a few examples:
- if it's a Target owned brand item: i.e., C9, Cat & Jack, Mossimo, Pillowfort, Up & Up -- you can return the item within one year with a receipt for an exchange or refund
- No receipt? You'll get store credit on a gift card.
            - any open music, movies or video games cannot be return, but can be exchanged for the same title
            - any open action figure cannot be returned
            - all electronics must be returned within 30 days

**Target RedCard holders will receive an extra 30-days to return their items purchased with that RedCard in store and online**

2. Nordstrom
The return policy at Nordstrom is very liberal
            - how many return days does Nordstrom offer?: Unlimited
            - their return policy states they handle returns on a *case by case basis*
            - if you don't have a receipt, Nordstrom can try to look up the purchase on their computer system
            - if they can't find it, they'll refund you the current price of your item with a Nordstrom gift card

3. Amazon
Holiday Return Policy: items shipped by Amazon.com between November 1 and December 31 can be returned until January 31 (the following year) for a full refund

What if your gift was sent from a third party seller?
+ Most third party sellers offer a return policy equivalent to amazon.com
+ Each seller has a profile page where they must state their return policy -- they also have to provide a prepaid return label or offer a full refund without requesting the item to be returned

If you received a video game
+ that can be returned to Amazon for a full refund within 30 days of purchase - but if you've opened it and used it and try to return it, you'll get charged a 100% restocking fee
