Grilling Gadgets

You don't have to keep your grilling to hot dogs and burgers - there are tons of things you can make on the grill instead. Christine Cook from Nordic Ware brought a few of their favorites to show us.

Plus, they brought along a smoked salsa. That recipe is below.

Smoked Salsa in the Nordic Ware Kettle Smoker
  • 4 Roma tomatoes, halved and seeded
  • 1 large Jalapeño, halved lengthwise, seeds and veins removed
  • 2 garlic cloves, peeled
  • 1/2 medium onion, cut into 4 wedges
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1/2 lime, juiced
1. Wash and dry the vegetables and prep for smoking.

2. Place tomatoes and jalapeno halves (cut side up), garlic and onion on smoker tray.

3. Place 1 tablespoon of apple wood shavings in the center of the smoker in a little pile. Place the drip pan over the wood shavings.

4. Turn on range exhaust fan. Without the vegetables in place, place lid on smoker and turn heat to medium-high until the temperature on the smoker thermometer reaches about 200°F. The vent on the smoker lid should be open until smoke begins to come out; then close the vent.

5. Once the smoker has reached 200°F, add the smoker tray with vegetables and smoke the vegetables for 20 to 25 minutes or until the vegetables are tender. (You may need to adjust the heat to maintain a temperature of between 150°F and 200°F.) Smoking time will vary depending on the ripeness of the tomatoes.

6. Place smoked vegetables in a food processor and pulse to chop to a chunky consistency.

7. Season with salt and mix in lime juice and cilantro.  Chill before serving.
