Lady Bugs Help Plants at Mall of America

Earth Day is Saturday, April 22nd and to celebrate Mall of America is release thousands of lady bugs. And we do mean thousands! Try 75,000 lady bugs. Children from Fraser Minnesota and Children’s Minnesota are doing the honor.

The lady bugs are released in Nickelodeon Universe to help the plants inside. The lady bugs act as a natural form of pesticide.

Mall of America has long been known for being “green”. It recycles more than sixty percent of the waste at the mall. More than 2,400 tons of food waste are recycled for a local hog farm. The fat from restaurant fryers is turned into biodiesel and instead of a heating system, solar energy from skylights helps keep the mall warm.
