Divorce and Joint Ownership

Tarek and Christina El Moussa are married and host the popular home improvement show "Flip or Flop". But they recently decided to get divorced. Most of us aren't hosting a TV show with their spouse but they could share a business or property outside of the home. Jodi and Shannon from Terzich and Ort stopped by to talk about these issues.

In general terms:

The goal of a divorce is to separate people, both physically and financially. The courts don't want you to own anything together.

The courts do not want to see you back. Any issues with joint ownership that could potentially continue beyond the divorce proceedings (like owning a rental property together) should be decided at the time of your divorce.

You know what's best for your family. If you can work out these arrangments before involving the court, they may accept your partial agreements.
