Mulled Wine with the Cast of "Camelot"

"Camelot" is playing through February 25th at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. The actors who play "King Arthur" and "Queen Guenevere", Keith Rice and Helen Anker, stopped by to talk about the show and share their recipe for mulled wine!

Hot Mulled Wine
  • Spice Sachet
  • 12 whole cloves
  • 10 peppercorns
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise buds
  • Kitchen twine
  • Cheesecloth (can buy at the grocery store)
  • 2 bottles of dry, fruity red wine, (recommend Shiraz or Malbec)
  • ½ cup honey
  • 2 lemons, zest removed with a peeler and juice
  • 3 oranges, (set one orange aside) On other two oranges, remove zest with a peeler and juice
  • ½ cup brandy
1) Make a spice  “sachet” which includes:
  • 12 whole cloves
  • 10 peppercorns
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise buds
Tie spices up in cheesecloth with kitchen twine.
2) Stud an orange with whole cloves and bake on a cookie sheet for an hour at 250 degrees. (It will make your house smell divine!)
3) In a large stainless steel pot over medium heat, add wine, honey, lemon zest and juice, orange zest and juice and the spice “sachet” and bring to a simmer (not a boil.) Simmer 30 minutes, then add brandy.
4) Remove the baked orange from the oven, pierce three or four times with a sharp knife. Add the orange to the pot just prior to serving,
5) When ready to serve, remove the spice sachet and ladle into mugs. Garnish with lemon and orange peel.
