Hospitality House was founded in 1960 by Elwood “Woody” Larson. His dream was to teach the youth of North Minneapolis and used athletics as a way to reach them. Armed with only a baseball bat, a few baseballs and an old station wagon, Woody began his outreach. Now, 56 years later, Hospitality House continues to provide education, athletics and community outreach programs for youth and families in North Minneapolis.
Hospitality House Youth Development provides a Christian outreach focused on the spiritual, intellectual, and physical development of inner city youth and their families.
Since 1993, Hospitality House has hosted an event called Christmas with Dignity. This is a sale that gives a hand-up to families in need in the greater Twin Cities Metro area by providing the opportunity to purchase gifts at a fraction of their retail price. This gives low-income parents the joy of choosing and buying items they can afford and have their children see them as providers during the holiday season. Each year, major retailers, corporations, and individuals donate merchandise to be used for gifts, but we could still use your help! Please consider donating new and unwrapped gifts to any Twin Cities Slumberland, Northwestern College: Erickson Center, or Hospitality House before December 15th. Teens, books, creative arts and gift cards rank among the top needed gifts. This year, help make holidays a little brighter for families in the Twin Cities. The Christmas with Dignity Sale Day is Friday, December 16th. Hospitality House does not make any money from this event. It is our give back to the community and a great way for anyone from individuals to large corporations to be involved! Volunteers and donations will be accepted from now until Thursday, December 15th. Please call 612-524-5824 for more information.
