Good Company: Angie’s Boomchickapop
Angie’s Boomchickapop was started by Angie and Dan Bastian. They were making their product at home in a garage and they thought if they sold their kettle corn, they could have something fun to do with the kids while also saving money for their college education. They started selling it at fairs and festivals. Then, they got into a few grocery stores. Soon, the Twins were calling. Before they knew, Angie and Dan were selling what was then known as “Angie’s Kettle Corn” in thousands of stores.
The name has since been changed to Boomchickapop. In fact, that fun and catchy name caught the attention of more distributors and customers. Now, the it’s being sold on the east and west coast. In fact, it’s now in all 50 states as well as the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, Canada and South Korea.
Angie’s Boomchickapop has 9 flavors. The product is gluten free and GMO free. It’s made in Mankato, but Dan and Angie also have an office in Minneapolis. As their company grew, so did their staff. Today, there are 190 employees.
Angie’s Boomchickapop and another Mankato company are teaming up for a limited run product. The Mankato Brewery is using the popcorn to make a Popcorn Ale. It takes about a single serving’s worth of popcorn to make a pint of the beer. The new beer can be found at the brewery, area liquor stores and some grocery stores. Once it’s all gone, it’s gone.
