Family Hot Spots from Delta Vacations

You have a chance at winning the Ultimate Family Vacation just by taking a photo of yourself in a pair of TCL sunglasses. Delta Vacations is making this the ultimate vacation by letting you pick the place!   Allison Buckneberg, from Delta Vacations, fills us in on some of the family hot spots they fly to.

  • Washington D.C. So many things to see in do in the nation’s capital – plus it’s fun and educational.  Many of the monuments are free to explore and museums often offer family package deals, especially if you book them ahead of time. One of my favorite museums for families is the SPY Museum – it’s a collection of items used by real spies and even spies in the movies. Also, if you're planning a trip to Washington, D.C., write to your senator or representative in advance. They can send you free maps, brochures, tickets to attend sessions of Congress, and even discounted tour tickets.  You may want to think about renting a car because DC is in proximity to other historical destinations such as Mt. Vernon and Williamsburg, Virginia, and it makes a great day trip.

  • San DiegoSan Diego made the top 5 list because it has a temperate climate, and temperatures remain very comfortable even in the summer months where the average high is 75 degrees.  Families here can take advantage of Sea World, San Diego Zoo, or visit the famous Gaslamp Quarter and Old Town which are National Historic Districts that offer restaurants, bars, and galleries housed in restored buildings dating back to the 1800s.

  • Los Cabos, MexicoIn Los Cabos, also known as Cabo, there is something for everyone in the family! There are numerous spas, places to golf, go deep sea fishing, do some shopping, and other water sports. Los Cabos is actually two towns: San Jose del Cabo, a 200-year-old fishing village, provides families with a look at traditional Old Mexico, and Cabo San Lucas is modern and bustles with activity day and night. The two towns are connected by a resort area known as The Corridor, where some of the Baja's most beautiful beaches are located. Plus, during the summer months, you can find some great deals here because it is the low season.

  • Puerto Rico – Want to escape to the Caribbean without a passport?  Puerto Rico is your best bet! Because it is part of the U.S. only a driver’s  license is required. Here there are so many activities for a busy family – there are beaches, caves to explore, even the El Yunque rainforest for  your family to hike and experience tropical plants and animals that live there.  Because most people speak English, it is easy to get around, and even when you rent a car, the road signs and traffic laws are the same as in the U.S.

  • Scotland -  Last pick is Scotland.  I know that everyone is buzzing about the Olympics right now, but you can still take part in all of the buzz without having to fight the traffic and high prices around London this summer, by visiting Scotland.  As part of the United Kingdom, it offers so many things for families, including Edinburgh Castle, art, architecture, and more parks than and other European city per square mile. Summertime in Edinburgh is filled with the best festivals and the biggest crowds, such as The 7 festivals held each summer including: Edinburgh International Film Festival, Edinburgh Art Festival, Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh International Book Festival, and Edinburgh Mela Festival. Plus Delta Vacations is offering up to $250 off the purchase of a vacation package to Europe, if the book by July 31st.
