Everyone has their favorite neighborhood joint. It’s a place the might not look like much from the outside but has a whole lot of good food inside! Minnesota Monthly food critic, Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl tells about three of her favorite joints.
The first one is DeGidios in St. Paul. DeGidios is located on West 7th Street and is a third generation family owned business. DiGidios is classic Italian American food. Dara’s favorite? Try the Italian Meatball Dip…and add a sausage!
Her second pick is Fat Nat’s Eggs in New Hope. Fat Nat’s is known for it’s huge breakfasts and everything is made by scratch. The diner is only open for breakfast and lunch and is a place without a lot of style but people just love it. Dara suggests trying the Egss Nats Benedict with Chorizo.
The third pick is Chimborazo in Northeast Minneapolis. Located on Central Avenue in Northeast Minneapolis, this place is easy to miss! While you might just drive by it, it is definitely worth keeping your eyes open for it. Chimborazo is Ecuadorian food – which is not Mexican food. Ecuadorian has a lot more native foods – a lot of corn, seafood, coconuts, and is more tropical in flavor than Mexican. Try the Llapingachos and shrimp encocado – you’ll be glad you did.
