The latest addition to the TCL Library bookshelf is the first novel from a woman whose first book, a memoir, debuted to critical acclaim and some controversy. Author Nicole Helget has a new book out though, “The Turtle Catcher,” and she stopped by TCL to tell us all about this work of fiction. The idea for the novel came from a story her dad told her when she was a kid. The story is set during World War I, and is about German immigrants and the choices they were forced to make between their new country and the home they left behind. Nicole won Minnesota Monthly’s “Tamarack Prize,” a competition for unpublished short fiction; Nicole won for the first chapter of “The Turtle Catcher.” Nicole’s book is available in bookstores now.
