The Nurse Family Partnership

Young mothers-to-be in Ramsey County are getting a little extra help thanks to The Nurse Famly Partnership.  The program, new to Ramsey County, pairs up nurses with young, low income pregnant women until their baby turns two.  The nurses answer questions about sleep habits, breastfeeding, and child care in addition to helping these in need mothers stay on track with sobriety, eating disorders, and relationships.  It is their goal to see every single mother make the choices necessary to help them move toward being the best mother they can be.

The Partnership was created 30 years ago by David Olds after working in an inner city daycare in the 1970’s.  He believes getting nurses in touch with moms before their babies are born is crucial.  On average, The Nurse Family Partnership costs about $10,000 per mom and baby, but estimates it saves three times that in future services.
